Holi And Memories.

Holi is a time to reach out with the colors of joy.
It is the time to love and forgive.
It is the time expresses the happiness of being loved and to be loved through colors.

But during our childhood Holi was the festival of mad mad colours. At that time there was two kind of Holi. 1st where exam is over and we can enjoy holi to the fullest, and the 2nd where exams are coming in few days and there were lots of dont's laid by our parents. Now let me elaborate both types of Holi from the perspective of a child.

The 1st  fun filled with no Restrictions.
We used to plan well in advance for Holi. Buying gulaal (color powder) packets, pichkari  (spray guns). There were friends who are eager to play Holi and for the rest we have to break the door to force them play Holi, No excuse for not playing Holi by any  of our friends will be accepted. We discuss with our group from the previous days where we will start, how to convince with trick to call our unwilling friends to play Holi. After all our friends it’s a color riot. We play with all our heart with everyone, any misunderstanding with friends are clarified on that that and from that day friendship back on track as usual. After our Holi is over we go to each of the friends house for the Holi Snack. Sometimes the color is so much so that our parents were unable to recognize us and don’t allow us to let us in our own house. But the day of Holi and its memories stays in our mind.

The 2nd with restrictions
I guess no one would be interested in reading this. To be honest just the thought of not playing Holi makes me cry. And in 90s the final exams were mainly during month of March and  April. And if Holi comes before exams our parents laid down number of terms and conditions to allow us to play Holi.
T&C like Playing Holi for Only for 1 hour don’t play with hard colour have to be obeyed.
But after start of playing Holi we plea to extend it for another hour and reluctantly Parents agrees with the condition that we have to read extra on the evening.
After that Holi special snacks makes our day complete.

All the Holi’s fun bring its true color (literally) when we have to remove the colors from our face and body. The Gulaal’s are easy to remove but other like barnish colors and black colors are very hard to remove.  We help ourselves with shampoo, soap and the loofah to remove the colors. But all these makes our hair and skin very dry. In the evening we apply Coconut oil to give life to our hair.

Memories Stays Forever.

My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me.
Jim Valvano

I can definitely say that about my papa. He has been  believing me at every point in life and continue to do so. There are some memories which stays forever in the mind, and we cherish it.

In life we face so many moments where we doubt ourselves, whether we will be able to do it ? whether we will be able to achieve it ? What if we fail ? In those moments the reassurance and faith plays a very big role.

In my family I am the eldest son, where I am supposed to be the role model for my siblings. Its presumed that they have to learn from me which puts extra responsibility and pressure on the elder. So during my 12 th (SSC) I was not able to perform well in my science subjects. But like every Indian the family pressure was to become and Engineer. But i was very poor in Physics. Some how I was unable to discuss it at home. My fear was that they will think that I am giving excuses. And some how the exams got over and naturally my score was not good. I passed the exam but it was not good enough to get admission in good college. But commerce as a subject was very exciting to me and decided to take commerce for my graduation.
I planned to face my parents and share my views and decision. I was fearing that they will think negative about me and assume as a quitter. But when I described them about my choice for commerce and different career avenues they got very supportive. Papa's encouraging words that he has faith and confidence upon me was really nice. Those moments still brings cheers to me even now. And by God's grace and parents blessings I did good in my Commerce subject even secured a University position in Masters examination.

These word of encouragement, the trust on me, on my ability motivated to achieve more. These words made me determined to give my 100%.. These small gestures turned to be a blessings on my path of achievement. Now there is a great way to capture  these memories and cherish them forever. HDFC Life is giving you an opportunity to create your memory through a video or scrapbook and send to your loved one, so that you can cherish it forever.

Share The Load and Remove the Prejudice

I have been seeing in my house that Most households works like cleaning, laundry, cooking food is done by my mother or sister. It is presumed that any household chore,  is a woman’s job.
This might have some relevance in a paternal society where the man earns the living by farming or working and women taking care of the home.

But with changing times, where both man and women are equally educated and in most cases working or doing their own business it does not make sense. from a dominating point of view we should move towards a participating point of view. Like we share our happiness and sorrows we have to share the load be it laundry, cooking or household works. Now a days technology is a great enabler. Previously one can give the the excuse that I don't know it, I don''t know how to do it or I have forgot how to do it. But today there are multiple websites and videos on youtube for Do It Yourself (DIY) tasks. Just google how to use the washing machine there will be a plethora of option with videos, pictorials and manuals to guide you.
For this we need to have the curiosity as well as sharing the load mentality. If your spouse is late from office why don't surprise her with food which you ave prepared ? Just look for some easy recipe in Youtube and try for once. initially there might be some problem in finding stuff i the kitchen and the ingredients ratio but with time you will be the masterchef of your home,  I am sure with time you will love it as much as your spouse will. Besides think, your wife is returning home after a tiring day at office, and you have made the dinner table ready, these small things makes the bond even stronger.

For working couples most of the household work like cleaning the house, dusting, rearranging, laundry are kept for Weekends. weekends is same for both you and your wife. It has equal time for both of you, both wants to relax, both wants it to enjoy it. So if one person will do all the household work, it wont be equal weekends for both. You can share the work and will be surprised how quickly it got over. And you both can enjoy the weekends in a better way.

Now the time has come, dont think what will others think if you do the household work. Just share the load and remove the prejudice prevalent in the society.

I am joining the Ariel #ShareTheLoad campaign at BlogAdda and blogging about the prejudice related to household chores being passed on to the next generation.
